I have worked at Highworth Travel since leaving school in 1986 starting as a trainee and now more than 26 years later I am still here working as the Manager. I enjoy coming to work as each day offers something different, you never know where the next request may be to, and after all these years I am still learning about new places.
I have been lucky to have travelled quite extensively, so far I have visited 33 countries including Kenya, Dubai, Mexico and Jamaica but there are still many places on my bucket list that I would like to visit.
Of the countries I have been to Mauritius is my favourite; Mauritius offers all kinds of adventures in the Indian Ocean, whilst there you can walk with lions, quad bike, zip wire or hike through the National Parks, you can visit the numerous tea plantations and rum factories, visit the Capital Port Louis and take a trip to Pamplemousse Botanical Gardens, take a catamaran and swim with wild dolphins, play on the numerous championship golf courses or just lie on the beautiful beaches and soak up the sun
My main specialities are Cruising, Indian Ocean, Safaris, Tailor Made Long Haul Itineraries and Honeymoons.
Trust is the main ingredient of our success and building fantastic relationships with our clients, tailor making adventures, recommending the right destination and hotels for our client’s individual needs, so we guarantee our clients are happy and come back year after year.
I am extremely proud to be part of a multi award winning team here at Highworth Travel.
I decided being a travel agent was the job for me at age 15, whilst at school I studied at home for the COTAC travel exams and was lucky enough to get a job as a YTS trainee when I left school. That was some 26 years ago now, I can honestly say I love my job. I believe the secret to the success of a good travel agent lies in providing a first class service, using excellent suppliers and treating each booking as if it is your own. Many of our clients have been coming to us for years and we have built up strong relationships. We have many recommendations and have won multiple awards within the industry.
Over the years I have been fortunate to travel to many destinations including the Maldives, Brazil and Canada.
For a once in a lifetime trip taking the kids to Lapland was unbeatable, even though they are both now teenagers, their photo with the man himself has pride of place on our mantelpiece every Christmas.
Florida is one of my favourite destinations, aswell as being a complete Disney fan I have also visited the more unusual side of the sunshine state such as the Kissimmee Rodeo, Kennedy Space Centre, The Everglades and of course the famous Florida Keys sunsets. With the addition of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter since my last trip it won’t be long before I am going back.
Last year I made my first trip ‘Down Under’ which I absolutely fell in love with. I visited Sydney, Uluru, Port Douglas, Cairns, Green Island and Brisbane and had some amazing experiences such as White water rafting, Aboriginal sunrise walks around Uluru, snorkeling on the Barrier Reef and Whale watching.
Earlier this year I had my first visit to the wonderful island of Mauritius which was amazing, a stunning country with so much to do.
My last holiday was with my family to Turkey, this was my third visit to a country I adore with pretty scenery, lovely people and the most amazing food.
There is still so much to do, Great wall of China, Cruise the Nile, Drive Route 66, Safari in Kenya, Hawaii, Snorkeling in the Red Sea, Canadian Rockies…………..
In 2001 I decided a major career change was in order and accepted a job as Trainee Travel Consultant at Highworth Travel I have never looked back. I love my job and have gained my knowledge through research, training and very suportive colleagues
I have travelled extensively over the years to many wonderful destinations within Europe as this is my preference to long haul. My personal favourites are Portugal and Greece, Thassos Island an unspoilt gem. I have had some great family holidays with my children Christmas in Borovets Bulgaria being one of many
Cruising to me is pure luxury, my favourite ports within Europe are Madeira, Barcelona and the Island of Santorini a large rock formation protruding from the ocean where the only access to Thira Village being either cable car or donkey I chose the cable car!!!!!!!!!!
Sailing around the Caribbean for 2 weeks was sheer bliss 12 ports in 14 days St Lucia, Antigua, Tortola, Grenada, the reggae reggae feel of Jamaica and Grand Cayman with its pure white sands and some of the biggest iguana’s I have ever seen were my most memorable Islands
My visit to Croatia and Montenegro was amazing, Dubrovnik, and its surrounding coastline is stunning, with a selection of beautiful hotels, Cavtat a small resort where restaurants line the waterfront. To experience the Elaphite Islands of Kolocep, Lopud and Sipan by speedboat was fantastic. The Bay of Kotor in Montenegro took my breath away it was so beautiful, Budva a quaint little town with lots of character and some excellent restaurants an unforgettable trip
Egypt has now been added to my personal favourites, I loved it, we had a swim up room with a sea view at the Thomson Sensatori in Ras Norani Bay Sharm it’s a beautiful hotel with great staff, good food in a great location, their is a huge sandbank which is great for sunbathing once the tide has gone out and the snorkelling is amazing
I have recently returned from a work trip to Tenerife I stayed at the 5* Hotel Anthelia Costa Adeje a beautiful spacious hotel, 2 great swimming pools, lovely grounds and a superb restaurant with a wonderful terrace overlooking the ocean and Playa Fanabe Beach. I also visited the 5* El Mirador a stunning Boutique Hotel, toured Mount Teide National Park, sailed out on Peter Pan Boat to the Whales and Dolphins, spent a night at 5* Hotel Mencey in Santa Cruz a brilliant trip thank you Classic Collection Holidays
I enjoy my job very much and love a challenge, every day and every enquiry is so different from tailor made to bucket and spade, I work with a great team where personal service is paramount to our clients.
As a child I was very fortunate to travel on many family holidays abroad and when I was offered a position at Highworth Travel after leaving school at 16 I snapped at the chance! Now 10 years later and after a few years away I am back to where my travel journey first started.
I have been very fortunate over the past 10 years to travel to many exciting destinations such as Egypt, The Gambia, Turkey, Greek Islands, The Caribbean Islands and my favourite so far, Canada. Taking a helicopter trip over the beautiful Niagara Falls is a memory that will last a life time as well as the fantastic ‘Maid of the Mist’ boat trip along the falls.
My second favourite holiday was a Caribbean cruise onboard the P&O Azura which to describe in one word… wow! A fantastic 5 star ship with ample facilities, 4 swimming pools, fantastic cuisine all combined with the beautiful Caribbean Islands was a magical experience & one I will definitely be repeating.
For me by far the best part of my job is the buzz of organising and booking someone’s dream holiday. I love a good tailor-made itinerary especially to the exciting destinations of Australia and the Far East.
I am very fortunate to work with a fantastic multi award winning team here at Highworth Travel with over 70 years combined experience, superb customer service and extensive destination knowledge, I am very glad to be back home.
