Crete Educational with Caribtours – September 17
by claire
In September I travelled to Crete with 3 other travel agents and Mandy from Caribtours, we flew to Heraklion and arrived at 10.30 pm, after a slight delay waiting for our luggage and a 50 minute transfers we arrived at midnight at our hotel for the first 2 nights – St Nicholas Bay, on the outskirts of Aghios Nikolaus.
We appeared to be greeted by half the hotels staff and after being taken to our beautiful rooms for a quick freshen up we were invited to their outside terrace restaurant for a light meal – they served a beautiful greek salad, smoke salmon salad and Cheese served with locally produced Cretan Wine then followed with fresh fruits. A lovely welcome and we were in bed by 2.00 am!!
The next day we had a leisurely breakfast after the late night, then the morning was spent being shown around the property by Yiannis the assistant manager – nothing appears to be too much trouble for the hotel and they will always try their best to meet client’s requests.
Our evening was spent with the hotel manager dining at the outside terrace restaurant, the food and service was excellent and we even chose the fish we wanted from the chilled cabinet, all meals are accompanied by the very tasty local wines.
The hotel is spread out across a wide area and there are quite a few slopes in the resort, this is the only downfall to the property and I wouldn’t recommend it for people who are less mobile.
The following day we moved a few miles along the coast to the Elounda Beach Hotel, here we were thoroughly spoilt and were given our own individual villas with private pools. Again the hotel is spread over a wide area and you can also inter-dine at the sister hotel Elounda Bay Palace. The Elounda Bay Palace is better for families with children as they have a couple of beautiful sheltered beaches and lots of daytime activities.
The first night we had dinner at the Elounda Bay Palace in the Thalassa Restaurant where it was the local greek night, food was buffet style and then local dancers entertained us – unfortunately we didn’t smash the plates!
The second evening our dinner was at Elounda Beach in the Dionysus restaurant, this is their fine dining restaurant and it certainly didn’t disappoint.
I would highly recommend the hotels we stayed at if you like to go away and truly be looked after, the hotels are both of an exceptionally high standard, both hotels offer the option of Breakfast and evening meals, but you are only about 10 minutes by taxi if you prefer to eat out at local restaurant.
The Elounda Beach operates a meet and assist on arrival back to Heraklion airport which is very useful as when we arrived back at the airport the queue outside seemed to go on forever, the guide just took us through a different door straight to the Easyjet check-in counter, a very swift check in before out flight back to Gatwick.
