In June 2012 I was very fortunate to fly with British Airways in Club World to Toronto Airport. 2 hours later I arrived at the Marriott Niagara Falls Hotel to a spectacular fireworks display over the falls. However nothing could prepare me for the breathtaking view I would wake up to the next morning! After a lovely breakfast I had an action packed day including the famous ‘Maid of the Mist’ boat trip, followed by a Jet Dome boat up the Niagara Gorge, wine tasting and an amazing helicopter trip over the falls for a birds eye view.
My next destination 4 hours drive away took me to the Muskoka Region and the stunning JW Marriott Hotel on Lake Rosseau. A complete get away from it all hotel with plenty of facilities, 1 night was definitely not enough. The next day I made my way to Ottawa (5 hours) stopping off for a hike in Algonquin National Park where I was very fortunate to spot a young Moose with its mother and a Black Bear.
As a capital city Ottawa very pleasantly surprised me, so calm, laid back and peaceful with lots of history and yet only 10 minutes drive from Gatineau Park where you can go rock climbing, cycling, fishing and in the winter, cross country skiing, ice shoeing and tobogganing. A sports enthusiast’s paradise! After 2 nights here I made my way on the 4 hour journey to the largest city in Canada, Toronto. On route I stopped off at the city of Kingston for lunch, a world heritage destination and the gateway to the 1000 islands where I embarked on a guided boat tour.
So my final destination brought me to Toronto, ranked as the safest large metropolitan area in North America its a fantastic multi-cultural city, filled with bustling markets, museums, shopping centres and buzzing night scenes. No visit here would be complete without a trip up the 346m CN Tower where you can dine in the revolving restaurant, take a walk along the glass floor, or if you’re feeling very adventurous walk the ledge at 356m on the EdgeWalk. Or like me, just relax and take in the stunning views!
